Authorization Holds

When purchasing electronically, you will often see authorization holds for your charge, especially if the purchase is not successful. These holds will appear when you check your online statement;  however, they do not actually result in a charge.

If the transaction you initiated does not go through or is not completed, then the funds that were placed on hold are released. Each bank has its own timeline and policies for releasing these funds; however, it is typically in the vicinity of 2-3 business days.

For successful purchases, you may also see the hold in addition to your purchase. If this occurs, the hold will disappear after 2-3 business days, and you will only be charged once.
You may contact your credit card issuing company to confirm the authorization hold or to check on the authorization status.
